Since there are plenty of reviews here that summarize the plot I won't go into it, other than to say this is a great story of a young girl's personal growth. So I'll gush about the writing instead, which is excellent. The author presented the main character's (Coco) voice superbly and really drew me in. Even though Coco starts off as a generally unpleasant and selfish person, you could almost sympathize with her because of how well her feelings were expressed. The writing is very good, and the language is very creative and expressive. I was constantly pleasantly surprised by the creative language used. There were a few laugh out loud moments for me as well. The supporting characters were all three-dimensional with distinct personalities and they really added to the story's depth.

I highly recommend this book. It's awesome. I think it's the author's best work.
I'm guessing that the 54 year old lady who left the review might be surprised that a 69 year old grandmother is doing the same.
Coco Franks is a lucky girl, not because her family is suddenly uprooted and headed for a life in the middle of nowhere but because they have a strong family unit.
Coco will face some really difficult times. Some will be created by her and some will be forced on her because sometimes life is difficult, especially when false friends enter the picture.
Thanks to the people who know and love her best, Coco is going to be fine.
I had originally gotten this book in fall of 2016 but had not read it. Recently I received a copy in a free promotion and decided to read it. It was a well written fun contemporary read that I enjoyed. Obviously the book was written for a much younger person than me, but it was still enjoyable. CoCo is thirteen when her parents get this crazy idea that they should uproot the family and move them to the wilderness. Lots of adjustments and CoCo finds that friends are not always what they seem and the move teaches a lot about real friends and the package they come in. A great clean read.
This book is laugh-out-loud funny as Coco Franks goes from one of the "in" girls with perfect hair and clothes to a girl who has to move with her family to homestead while living in a shack. She soon discovers that her perfect clothes aren't practical, but refuses to give up her style and dream of returning to her school where she can be perfect and popular once more. We keep rooting for Coco to embrace her new life and get a new attitude, but this girl is tough to crack! No more spoilers, but be assured that Coco does realize who she is, and there is a cute love interest that will keep you wanting more.
I'm 54 years old, and this book was obviously not written for my age group! However, I really did have fun reading this book! I enjoyed Coco's personality very much and I like the fact that she knew who she was and wasn't apologetic for it! Despite her trials, she was actually a pretty positive person, and saw the humor in a lot of her situations, even though she didn't realize it at the time. I see so many books out there that are nothing but stories about teenage angst, depression, and feelings of desperation, some of which seem to almost glorify suicide. This should be a refreshing change for the young readers. There were only two problems I had with it 1) I thought that Coco and her friends were way too young to be talking about and having steady boyfriends and 2) I liked the family dynamic, and I loved that the family was closely knit, which is why I couldn't understand why Coco's parents pretty much ignored how upset she was about the move. They really never acknowledged her feelings about it, which I thought was out of character for them, considering their actions in the rest of the book. Other than that, it was a good read, excellent writing, good humor.
I decided to pre-read this before sharing it with my 12 year old and I'm glad I did. I got through the first two chapters, barely, and I'm not sure I can keep reading. What kind of messages is the author hoping to convey - that you're only important and worthy of being someone's friend if you're skinny and 'perfect'? Or that you should change who you are to be able to hang out with a group of snooty girls who will drop you as their friend if you put on a few pounds?

What. The. Heck?

I'm not sure I can keep reading. I truly hope this turns around, but at this point this book is just reinforcing all of the terrible messages that girls, teens, and women get from the media - you'll only be happy and worthy if you're just the right kind of thin and pretty. The MC is not at all likable at this point; her twin sister sounds way more interesting and likable and she's not a sucker for BS social constructs.

I really want to keep reading and give the author the benefit of the doubt. I'm a mom of three with limited time; I'm not sure I can waste my precious reading time wading through the rest of this hoping I'll find a gem tucked in a corner of this book somewhere.
